Höckböleholmen 1,8 km − the glory of snake’s heads

Höckböleholmen is topographically diverse with high biodiversity. There are lush groves, dry meadows, seashore, wooded marsh and barren rocks. The traditional spring blossom of blue and white anemones is worth a visit. There is also a wildly growing stock of snake’s heads. Adam and Eve orchids bloom on Lastarudden in May. The beautiful Lastarudden was once used as a loading place for galeases during the peasant sailing era.

The diversity of trees and shrubs, such as aspen, maple, ash, hazelnut, wild apple, buckthorn, hawthorn and mountain currant make the reserve a beautiful experience in their autumn colours in September and October. Birdlife is rich with different species of woodpeckers and tit birds, treecreepers, wrynecks, spotted nutcrackers and wood warblers. Roe deer and hares can be seen on regular basis.

This is a nature reserve, please follow the marked trails. You may not break branches, pick berries, mushrooms, plants, mosses, lichens, fire wood or stones. From May until October there are grazing cattle in the area. Dogs must be kept on leash.

Enjoy nature! Take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footsteps.
