Medeltidsstigen 3 km – ancient burial site and Great Northern War

The Medieval Trail leads around a wooded hill and focuses on the village history. The trail goes up to some heights with views of the surrounding fields, meadows and lake. It passes an ancient burial site in Olofsnäs with some 30 graves from the younger Iron Age (approx. 400–1000 AD).

Along the trail you can learn about life during different time eras, such as fishing in the Middle Ages and roe deer hunting in the 16th century. You can also read more about the Great Northern War when Åland was occupied by Russian troops from 1714 until 1721 and when most Ålanders fled to Sweden. The post glacial rebound has had an impact on the landscape and the old fairways have disappeared. A cultural heritage cottage near the trail has been built according to old methods.

Enjoy nature! Take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footsteps.
