Sadelinleden 77 km – cultural landscapes and wild orchids

The trail offers varied nature such as meadows, forests, rocky hills and seashore. The trail can be hiked in shorter stages and in both directions. You can start and end the hike in places near the road.

The trail passes several villages and attractions such as Finström’s church in Pålsböle. The church is considered the most intact medieval building in Finland. Marsund was an important village along the old mail road across Åland and offers fine cultural landscapes with old buildings. A Russian coastal battery was built at Vårdberg in Sålis during the World War I. The battery was demolished after the war, but there are some remains left. Skarpnåtö has a homestead museum with old utensils. The Västanträsk village is Åland’s apple farming centre, and in Höckböle there is a nature reserve with rich flora, e.g. orchids Adam and Eve. There are lookout towers on Klintbergen hill in Skarpnåtö, Vårdberg in Sålis and in Pålsböle.

Enjoy nature! Take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footsteps.
