Stora Båtskär 1,5 km

The barren conditions in the outer archipelago have had a characteristic impact on people through millennia. Coexisting with nature requires respect and understanding of different species. For example, essential knowledge was passed down from generation to generation about the best fishing areas in different seasons with different underwater currents. Locals shared knowledge on popular resting sites to hunt seals as well as nesting islands of birds to collect eggs. The amount of eggs collected from nests in the spring without disturbing the breeding was important to ensure diving ducks return year after year and nest on the same islets. Common Eider ducks, Goosanders and other diving ducks often became very tame as humans were not seen as a threat but as protectors from predators. Today, Stora Båtskär offers scenic walks around the open islet thanks to trails with footbridges that have been made to service the wind turbines. Please visit the island with respect for wildlife and use only the designated trails and areas without disturbing the nesting birds.

Follow the 1.5-kilometre Ådvandringen Eider trail and contribute to the safe nesting of diving ducks. Share your knowledge and raise awareness for diving duck protection. Along the Eider trail there are 8 information boards with quiz questions. You can check your answers on board number 8. Share your result and tag @AdansVaenner
