Godby Arboretum − foreign trees in åland’s nature

An arboretum can be briefly described as a collection of planted trees and shrubs of both native and foreign species. The purpose is to provide information about appearance, growth, distribution and genetics of the trees.

The word arboretum is derived from the Latin arbor, which means tree and the ending -etum refers to a planting place for these.

Godby arboretum is set as a walking trail in easily accessible forest terrain. Along the trail you can learn about a number of foreign species, most of them planted in the 1930s. Information boards tell you which tree types you see.

Enjoy nature! Take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footsteps.
