Bomarsund 4,2 km – the Russian empire's outpost in the west

Along this trail you will visit places relating to the history of the Russian military at Bomarsund, the fortifications and other buildings, including dwelling houses. Today, these can be seen in the terrain as ruins and house-foundations.

You will also visit places where parts of the fortress were planned but never built before the battle of 1854. The trail takes you through a beautiful and varied nature, as well as to the best view- points in the area.

The walk is about 4,2 km long, and includes sections that are both uneven and moderately steep, as well as a 35 metre long flight of steps. The difficulty of this walk varies between easy and moderately difficult. Blue marks on posts and trees will show you the way.
