Ingbybergen

A fault traverses the Åland bedrock. The trail runs up to the top of the hill through an impressive crack in the rocks. On the way up, the trail turns right towards the so-called Troll Church, an 11-metre-deep cave-like crevice. According to legend, the cave was used by robbers in ancient times. During the Great Northern War in the early 1700s, an old woman with a cow sought shelter in the cave. On the hill top, 60 metres above the sea level and next to the picnic table, there is a lookout tower with a magnificent view. The trail passes two Bronze Age burial mounds before reaching Knapplarna, one of Åland's many ancient shorelines with a shingle beach formed about 7,000 years ago. This shingle beach is over half a hectare in size and thus protected. After Knapplarna the descent begins back through the crevice. You can also choose to walk back and enjoy a picnic by the lookout tower.
